Jicasso creates
3D scenes based on Java3D without any programming. Components from a library
can be selected, positioned, colored and textured to create the required layout.
The overall applet size can be as big or as small as is required.
To create a scene is simple. You press the component button
to
select the component you want added to the layout and then press the property button
to
alter the components characteristics. Then press the save button to save the layout as an applet.
Important features include :
- Scenes are always built in true WYSIWYG fashion
- A basic library of components is supported including all the Java3D primitives
- Modified primitives can be saved as a new library of components
- Direct, point and spot lights can be added to light a scene as desired
- Scenes can be saved and re-edited
- Scenes can be previewed using Jicasso's own preview function
- HTML including Java-plugin HTML is automatically generated
- Created applet size is typically around 7.5K plus any images

Software required to run Jicasso
You will require the free Java 2 runtime
as well as the free Java3D extension to run Jicasso.
Future enhancements
- Hyperlinks to URL's for applets
- Extra primitive shapes such as tetrahedron
- Linear fog (somehow overlooked)
- Ability to sketch out new shapes
- Ability to import objects from external file formats
- Creation of worlds with walls, landscape etc.
- Saving images of scenes into JPG or PNG formats
- Java source code generation
What browsers do Jicasso created applets require?
Standard IE or Netscape browsers currently won't
run applets that use Java3D unless Sun's free Java-plugin
product is installed (the Java-plugin is installed automatically when installing the Java runtime).
Alternatively applets can be viewed with Sun's HotJava browser or using the "AppletViewer" that
comes with the Java SDK.
